Stocks slid on Monday, with the Nasdaq down more than 2 percent, as investors questioned the strength of any economic recovery, and a stronger dollar pulled down oil prices and hurt energy shares.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> fell 110.94 points, or 1.30 percent, to 8,428.79. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> lost 16.33 points, or 1.77 percent, to 904.90. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> dropped 37.00 points, or 2.02 percent, to 1,790.47.
