U.S. technology stocks rose at the open on Friday, buoyed by Microsoft Corp's quarterly earnings that topped expectations, but a fall in energy shares kept the Dow and the S&P 500 indexes flat.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> was down 3.02 points, or 0.03 percent, at 10,078.29, as major energy shares were weighed by a fall in crude oil prices.

The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> was up 0.63 points, or 0.06 percent, at 1,093.54. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> was up 17.62 points, or 0.81 percent, at 2,182.91.
