National Coffee Day 2012 Reuters

Brew, Joe, Mud, Café Au Lait, Liquid Lightning: it’s known and loved by many different names. And this Saturday, it will be honored with its own national holiday.

While the precise historical provenance of National Coffee Day is shrouded in mystery, this much is certain: on Saturday at celebrating locations in the U.S., java lovers can get a free cup of coffee. Here’s where interested parties can get a free caffeine fix:

McDonald’s locations in the Tri-State area will be offering free 12 oz. coffees, available in stores or drive-thrus. No purchase is necessary to redeem the offer.

Krispy Kreme will be offering one free 12 oz. of House Blend Coffee per customer, in participating stores.

Kangaroo Express will also be offering a 12 oz. cup of Bean Street Coffee between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Saturday, for one cent!

Dunkin Donuts will be selling a pound of coffee for $5.99, and giving away coupons on their website. The coffee chain is also hosting a Twitter giveaway, for a chance to win a free pound of coffee.
