New Year's Eve in Times Square, New York, is a spectacle unto itself. Police expect a million people to crowd in to watch the ball drop, with billions across the globe tuning in to watch the New Year's Eve celebration. To watch the New Year's celebration online, there are numerous live streams available.

The New Year's Eve celebration at Times Square started in 1907, according to the Times Square Alliance. For 2013, Waterford has included a message of peace on the giant crystal ball.

Waterford had to replace 288 of the 2,688 panels that make up the New Year's Eve ball, reports The Associated Press. Instead of just adding new crystal panels, Waterford is adding a special theme for 2013, “Let There Be Peace.” Each of the new panels will have a dove chiseled onto it, notes AP.

The ball is to arrive in New York on Wednesday. To help get rid of the stigma of the unlucky number, Waterford is adding 13 good luck charms from around the world to the crystal ball, says the Times Square Alliance. The crystal balls weigh more than 11,000 pounds.

The New Year's Eve celebration would not be complete with some big-name performers as part of ABC's “New Year's Rockin' Eve.” The show will be hosted again by Ryan Seacrest and will feature performances by Taylor Swift, PSY, Carly Rae Jepsen and Neon Trees, reports Billboard.
