Indianapolis Colts News: Colts Will Start Vick Ballard Sunday Versus New York Jets
Indianapolis quarterback Andrew Luck has three games of 300-plus yards passing this season, but may struggle if the Colts running game can't find a solution for injured running back Donald Brown. The Colts will start rookie Vick Ballard Sunday versus the New York Jets. Reuters

The New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts play each other on Sunday afternoon in a battle of two second place teams.

The Jets are coming off a tough loss to the Texans on Monday Night Football. Houston struggled, allowing New York an opportunity to take the lead in the closing minutes, but the Jets offense wasn’t able to take advantage of its opportunity.

Mark Sanchez had another poor outing. It was the fourth straight game in which he completed less than 50 percent of his passes. His 66.6 quarterback rating puts him 31st among all NFL starters.

Because of his ineptitude, fans and media members have wondered if Tim Tebow could be taking the reins from Sanchez anytime soon. However, Jets coach Rex Ryan has stated that Sanchez is his starter for the foreseeable future.

While New York’s quarterback can’t seem to catch a break, Indianapolis’ signal caller is getting better every week. Andrew Luck led the Colts in one of the biggest comebacks of the year, last Sunday. He helped his team beat the Packers, coming back from an 18-point deficit.

The first pick in April’s draft threw for a career-high 362 yards in the victory. Now, he faces a banged up Jets secondary that is without its best player. Darrelle Revis was officially placed on injured reserve this week, and won’t be able to return for the rest of 2012.

New York’s defense, which used to be one of the most feared in the league, has been pedestrian in 2012. The Jets are 22nd in the league, allowing 26.4 points per contest.

Despite their struggles, New York is expected to beat Indianapolis in Week 6. The Colts are 3.5-point underdogs at most Las Vegas sportsbooks.

WWE superstar John Cena will be the Jets honorary captain for the game.

The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium. It will air on CBS. It is also possible to watch a live stream online, by purchasing NFL Sunday Ticket Max.
