Nick Cannon just subtly slammed the media for being manipulative. Mariah Carey’s ex-husband took to social media to voice out his disdain over how news outlets seem to always turn people against each other. He even quoted the late John Lennon’s take on how society is full of insanity.

On Wednesday, the 36-year-old rapper and record producer updated his Instagram with graphics containing strong messages against the media and society as a whole. One of his posts shows a quoted statement by African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist Malcolm X. The statement is apparently a reminder of how newspapers can ironically make people hate the oppressed and love the oppressors instead. In the caption, Cannon pointed out that people should know how to manipulate the media before the latter manipulates them.

The other infographic Cannon posted features Lennon’s countenance, along with a quote highlighting the Beatles co-founder’s views about society. “I think our society is run by insane people for insane objectives … But I am liable to be put away as insane for expressing that,” a part of Lennon’s statement reads. In the caption, Cannon noted how the late singer-songwriter said it best. He added that people who stand up for themselves oftentimes get labeled as crazy.

On his Instagram posts, many fans gave Cannon some encouragement and left him positive messages. One wrote: “You can take yourself out of the insanity by doing you and staying true to yourself and your higher being.” Another commented: “Always stand up for what’s right. Know your worth. Don’t be afraid.”

Cannon’s latest posts come days after he announced via Facebook his departure from NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” In his lengthy Facebook post, the comedian expressed how he was “deeply saddened” by the threat he got from NBC executives following his racial joke during his recent Showtime stand-up stint. “There is no amount of money worth my dignity or my integrity,” he emphasized in his post.

Cannon’s departure is expected to affect the reality talent competition. Production of “AGT” Season 12 was scheduled to commence this March, and this would have been Cannon’s eighth season as the show’s host, according to USA Today.
