Nike Inc on Tuesday posted a higher quarterly profit as sales rose in almost every region and category of athletic gear.

However, future orders excluding currency exchange rates -- a key measure of sales growth -- rose 11 percent, lower than what some analysts had expected.

Net income in the fiscal second quarter rose to $457 million, or 94 cents a share, from $375 million, or 76 a share, in the year-earlier period.

Sales rose 10 percent from last year to $4.84 billion.
