Japan's Nikkei average fell 2 percent to its lowest in more than five months on Tuesday, hit by a decline in the euro that dragged exporters lower as worries that the euro zone's troubles might spread kept investors wary about holding riskier assets.

The benchmark Nikkei <.N225> shed 197.75 points to 9,560.65. The broader Topix <.TOPX> lost 1.5 percent to 866.65.
