The fictional battle between North “Nori” West and Blue Ivy Carter officially began on Thursday after TMZ announced the then-unofficial name of Kim Kardashian’s and Kanye West’s newborn. People were stunned when Jay-Z and Beyonce named their bundle of joy Blue Ivy, but the reality-television star and her rapper beau might have topped them in the name game.

People were inspired to look up the “Worst Baby Names” inspired by North West and her alternative nickname. But, while the general public might be shocked by Kardashian and West choosing a compass direction, it’s commonplace in Hollywood to pick unconventional monikers. Quick examples: “Iron Man” star Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple, and “My Name Is Earl” star Jason Lee named his son Pilot Inspektor. And let’s not forget Sylvester Stallone, who christened his son Sage Moonblood.

Celebrities definitely like to be original when it comes to baby names, and clearly Kardashian and West are no exceptions. It’s not exactly clear why the celebrity couple decided to go with North, but according to the Sun, the 36-year-old rapper likes way it sounds with his surname.

Conspiracy theorists speculate the duo named the child North West because the compass direction has an Illuminati meaning attached to it, but neither of the stars has ever claimed to be a member of the Illuminati or any satanic cult, pseudo or otherwise. One of the Illuminati symbols is a triangle, so sometimes when a celebrity, specifically Jay-Z, flashes a gesture that looks like the geometric figure, he gets thrown into the Illuminati group by such theorists.

The name Blue Ivy also got those who believe in the Illuminati rumors riled up, because apparently Blue Ivy spelled backward, or Eulb Yvi, is Lucifer’s daughter’s name in Latin. Of course, Jay-Z and Beyonce have never admitted to being involved with any cult. How could North West have any satanic meaning? On a compass, northwest points at 333 degrees, which is half of 666 -- the devil’s number. Also, northwest also allegedly points toward the Illuminati temple. So which so-called Illuminati name is weirder? That’s entirely open to debate, but Twitter users seem to agree that North West definitely outshines Blue Ivy Carter when it comes to being one of the worst names.

Of course, North wouldn’t be that strange a name except for the fact the baby’s last name is going to be West. Us Weekly reported the parents are going to call her Nori, which is much cuter. Still, the poor girl is going to have to walk around telling people she has the same name as a compass direction.

People were flabbergasted when the hip-hop power couple named their little girl Blue Ivy, mostly because it appeared so random. Ever see the movie “Old School” with Will Ferrell? You know, “Blue, you’re my boy!” That’s what I think of every time I hear the name Blue.

When it comes to celebrity baby names, it seems like the hip-hop couples were going for something that could be branded. After all, many people are talking about how much money Kardashian and West are going to make off their baby. The reality-TV personality already had a multimillion-dollar deal with Weight Watchers before her Kimbryo was even born. In this case, it seems like the weirder the better.
