President Barack Obama will not store nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain in Nevada, even after two decades of planning.

President Obama's administration said the Yucca project is not an option and it will find a better solution for managing U.S. nuclear waste, Stephanie Mueller, a spokesman for the Department of Energy said in a statement according to Bloomberg.

Under the proposal for the Yucca project, nuclear waste from across the U.S. was supposed to be shipped and stored in tunnels thousand feet underground.

The Department of Energy had planned to store more than 109,000 metric tons of waste in Yucca.
