Letitia James, a New York City lawmaker, would like Michael Jackson to be honored by naming the subway station where the King of Pop made the film Bad after him.

The councilwoman wants a plaque placed at Brooklyn's Hoyt-Schermerhorn station - or to have Jackson added to the station's name.

Fans have too called for the transport hub to be renamed after Jackson and for a plaque to be put up on a platform in tribute to the singer.

According to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman, Kevin Ortiz, said renaming is unlikely, the Associated Press reported.

Station plaques are prohibited by the MTA according to Ortiz who said the agency is currently developing naming-rights guidelines.

James plans to petition.

Jackson had teamed up with director Martin Scorsese in 1987 to shoot the film at Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station, Brooklyn.
