Musician Bill Hudson publicly disowned his children -- actors Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson -- however, it appears that the lines of communication are still open between them. Following a Father’s Day blowout, actor Kurt Russell revealed that his stepson, Oliver, has been speaking with his biological father.

“I understood Oliver’s sense of humor and, since then, there’s been some nice back and forth between Bill and Oliver and that’s nice to see,” Russell told E! News at San Diego Comic-Con.

Oliver Hudson is the son of Bill Hudson and actress Goldie Hawn, who divorced in 1980. The “Nashville” and “Scream Queens” actor views his real father as Kurt Russell, Hawn’s long-time partner. Oliver got into a public spat with his biological father following a Father’s Day message on Instagram. “Happy abandonment day,” Oliver captioned a childhood photo of him and sister Kate with their dad. Meanwhile, he shared a photo with Russell with the caption, “Happy Father’s Day, Pa.”

The Instagram posts went viral, leading Bill to address the abandonment claims during an interview with The Mail. He told the outlet that Hawn is the reason that his family “drifted away.”

“Goldie wanted to create this myth of a perfect family with Kurt and she wanted me out,” he revealed. Bill added that his son’s post was “malicious” and that he no longer recognizes both Oliver and Kate Hudson as his own.

“I say to them now, ‘I set you free,’” he told the outlet. “I had five birth children and consider myself a father of three.”

Oliver Hudson has kept quiet since Bill’s public disownment. However, shortly after the interview Oliver was photographed on a golf outing with Russell.
