The 2016 Rio Olympics are currently ongoing, but preparations for future Games are underway, as well. Host cities have already been selected for the next three Olympics, and a city will be chosen for 2024 next year.

Nine cities have already hosted the Olympics twice, or will do so within the next six years. No city has ever hosted both the Winter and Summer Olympics, though that will shortly change.

The United States leads all nations, having hosted both the Winter and Summer Olympics four times each. The Games last came to the U.S. in 2002 when Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics, and though none of the next three Olympics are scheduled to come to the U.S., the country has put in a bid for the 2024 Games.

Below is a quick look at next few Olympic Games and the host cities.

2018 Winter Olympics

PyeongChang, South Korea, won the bid for the 2018 Olympics on July 6, 2011, beating out Munich and Annecy, France. The opening ceremony is set for Feb. 9 and the closing ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 25.

South Korea will become one of 15 countries that have hosted the Olympics more than once. The 1988 Summer Olympics were held in Seoul.

2020 Summer Olympics

Tokyo won the bid for the 2020 Olympics on Sept. 7, 2013, beating out Istanbul and Madrid. The opening ceremony is set for July 24 and the closing ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 9.

As the largest city in the world in terms of population, Tokyo will become the eighth city to host the Olympics more than once. It was the location for the 1964 Summer Games. Other Japanese cities have also hosted an Olympics. Sapporo hosted the 1972 Winter Games, and the 1998 Winter Games were played in Nagano.

2022 Winter Olympics

Beijing won the bid for the 2022 Olympics on July 31, 2015, beating out Almaty, Kazakhstan. Oslo withdrew its bid months earlier. The opening ceremony is set for Feb. 4 and the closing ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 20.

Beijing will become the first city to ever host both the Winter and Summer Olympics. It was the site of the 2008 Summer Games, where China led every nation with 51 gold medals.

2024 Summer Olympics

While the 2020 Olympics has a host city, a location has yet to be determined for the 2024 Summer Games. In September of 2015, five finalists were named as contenders to host the games, and the winner will be announced on Sept. 13, 2017.

Paris stands out as the favorite to win the bid, and Bovada.lv has given the nation 5/6 odds to do so. Los Angeles and Rome are contenders as well with 3/1 odds, and Budapest has 10/1 odds to host the Games. Hamburg, Germany, withdrew its bid in November.
