Claire Holt recently opened up about her miscarriage.

On Sunday, “The Originals” actress shared a photo of herself at the hospital and said that the snap was taken 10 days ago just before her surgery.

Holt said that her baby lost its heartbeat, and she sent the photo to her fiancé, Andrew Joblon, to let him know that she was doing well. But Holt said that she wasn’t really doing well at that time. She’s extremely broken over what happened to her unborn child.

“I debated sharing this so soon and I’m still frightened about making such a private struggle public, but I’m doing it anyway because it’s important. After my D&C, I spent hours on the internet searching for women who had been through it. I was desperate to find someone, anyone, who could relate to what I was feeling. Someone to tell me that depression and hopelessness were normal. That it wasn’t my fault. That I wasn’t broken forever. I found a community of women who shared the same experience,” she wrote.

Holt added that she’s grateful to all of the people she was able to talk to because they helped her through the very difficult time in her life. She also said that she hopes people can be more open about miscarriages and that no one will be judged for it.

“It breaks my heart to think that losing a baby feels like something we have to keep to ourselves. Why is it any different than the death of a loved one? How is it any less meaningful? Here is what I learned as I begin to crawl out of the dark hole: support is everything. I could not have survived this without the unconditional love of my partner,” she added.

Holt and Joblon got engaged last year. The happy news came just months after the actress’ ex-husband, Matt Kaplan, filed for divorce from her, according to E! News.
