Time to roll out the red carpet and start pouring the booze! On Sunday, movie buffs everywhere will gather around their television sets to tune in to the 2016 Oscars. And what better way to honor the year's best flicks than with a movie-themed drink in your hand?
We’ve rounded up some of the best and most creative cocktails for the occasion — ones that’ll leave your guests buzzing (and you feeling buzzed) throughout the 88th Academy Awards. Happy drinking!
1. Red Carpet Cocktails
- 1 ½ cups vodka, chilled
- 1 ½ cups pomegranate juice chilled
- ½ cup lime juice
- 1 bottle Champagne
- Chilled maraschino cherries
It all begins on the red carpet, so why not kick off your night of booze-filled fun there, too? Food Network stars Pat and Gina Neely, from “Down Home with the Neelys,” unveil their favorite thirst quencher to get your party started!
2. Dazzling Diamond Ring Jello Shots
- Plastic ring shot glasses
- box of 3 oz. Jello
- 1 cup rum or vodka
- 1 cup boiling water
- sugar crystals or sprinkles (optional)
- package of dry beans or rice to hold ring molds
3. The Old Hollywood
- 1 oz. Amaro Lucano
- 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
- 2 oz San Pellegrino Limonata
- Bisol Jeio Prosecco
- Lemon wheel for garnish
The Academy Awards is the oldest entertainment award ceremony, dating back to 1929 when the event was first broadcast on the radio. Honor the prestigious event with a classic cocktail celebrating the history of the Oscars.
4. “The Revenant” Gummy Bear Cocktail
- 1 oz. raspberry vodka
- 1 oz. peach schnapps
- 3 oz. lemon-lime soda
- 1 splash sour mix
- 3 Gummy Bears to garnish
Leonardo DiCaprio is up for his fifth Oscar nomination for his role in “The Revenant.” But will the actor finally go home as an Academy Award winner Sunday night? Fans of the Hollywood heartthrob are hoping DiCaprio will take home a golden statuette for his gripping fight scene against a bear in the Alejandro González Iñárritu directed movie. With that said, here’s a bear-themed drink in honor of DiCaprio’s fifth Oscar nod.
5. Martian Madness Cocktail
- 1 ½ cups cold-brew coffee
- ½ cups coffee liqueur
- ½ cups spiced rum
- One 12 oz. bottle of Coca-Cola
- ½ cup heavy cream
In “The Martian,” an Oscar-nominated film based on Andy Weir’s novel, Mark Watney (Matt Damon) concocted his own version of coffee by letting a caffeine pill dissolve in hot water. And as appealing as that sounds, here’s a much tastier, coffee-inspired option dubbed the Dark Moon. It's out of this world!
