Never a stranger to hyperbole or controversy, the Rev. Pat Robertson said Monday on his TV show "The 700 Club" that Sunday's killings at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin were caused by "Satanic" atheists.

The evangelist said "people who are atheists, they hate God, they hate the expression of God," and are responsible for the massacre. "They're angry with the world, angry with themselves, angry with society and they take it out on innocent people who are worshiping God," Robertson continued. He went on to recommend that people "talk about the love of God and hope it has some impact" to stop such violence from recurring.

Wade Michael Page, the shooter who was killed on Sunday during a gunfire exchange with local police, was a member of a far-right punk band and is currently being investigated for possible ties to neo-Nazi or white supremacist groups.

Robertson's comments come just a week after he suggested that including support for gay marriage in the 2012 Democratic platform would be "the death knell of their party."
