Perrie Edwards isn't letting her recent split from Zayn Malik keep her down. It was announced on Tuesday that she and the former One Direction member had decided to call off their engagement. At the time, neither had addressed those claims.

Edwards finally broken her silence about the split in a tweet Wednesday. As reported on People, Edwards thanked her 12.6 million followers for their support as she faces this challenging moment in her life. Edwards claims that because of the positivity from fans she's been able to remain in good spirits -- for the most part anyway. She followed her initial tweet with another saying that, while she's doing her best to be "strong," she can't help but have a heavy heart.

Despite her heartbreak, Edwards was able to meet and greet fans at a Hollister in Glendale, California, on Tuesday. She was joined by the rest of Little Mix and, according to photos from the promotional event, she looked happy as could be. One photo, posted on the girl group's Instagram page, shows Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock posing in what appears to be a parking lot in Los Angeles.

As previously reported, Edwards and Malik, both 22, reportedly split two weeks ago, though the story did not make headlines until Tuesday. No reason was given for the split, but it was reported that the decision to end the relationship was made by Malik. Edwards was said to be "devastated" by the breakup, but was doing everything in her power to hold it together while the band was on the road.

At the time of their split, Edwards had been engaged to Malik since August 2013. They had begun some of the preliminary planning for their wedding, though it is not believed a date was ever set. In an interview with The Sun in May, Edwards said their busy schedules made it very hard to solidify wedding plans.

Malik has tweeted since news of his split went public, but has made no mention of it.
