PlayStation VR Preorder: Where To Get Sony's VR Headset Launch Bundle And Possible Ship Date

The PlayStation VR preorder begins Tuesday at 10 a.m. EDT (7 a.m. PDT). Sony revealed its highly anticipated kit would be priced at $399 at the Game Developers Conference 2016 last week with a ship date in October. Tuesday's preorder is for the PlayStation VR launch bundle which includes the headset, two Move controllers, the PlayStation 4 camera and a copy of "PlayStation VR Worlds." For those who just want the PlayStation VR, another preorder will begin March 29 at 10 a.m. EDT (7 a.m. PDT).

The PlayStation VR launch bundle includes everything needed to begin using Sony's headset with the PS4 at a price of $499.99. The bundle saves consumers around $40 based on the suggested retail price of the PS4 camera ($59.99) and two PlayStation Move controllers (priced at $39.97 each). The PlayStation VR itself carries a price of $399, but the PlayStation 4 camera is required for tracking purposes. The PlayStation Move controllers are an optional way to create a more immersive experience. The DualShock 4 controller included with the PS4 is compatible with the PlayStation VR.

GameStop, Amazon and Walmart are participating in Tuesday's preorder. Gamestop requires a $100 deposit that will count toward the total cost of the PlayStation VR launch bundle with a limit of one preorder per household. Consumers can preorder the VR headset online or in person at any GameStop store. Amazon has a limit of one PlayStation VR bundle per customer during the preorder. The PlayStation VR launch bundle is available online at Walmart with free shipping. Best Buy and Target are also accepting preorders.

Amazon and Walmart list a ship date of Oct. 31 for the PlayStation VR. GameStop only has a 2016 release date.

For consumers who may have the PlayStation 4 camera or PlayStation Move controllers, Sony revealed there will be a separate preorder for the PlayStation VR core unit March 29 beginning at 10 a.m. EDT (7 a.m. PDT). For players looking to save some money and willing to search around for the best prices, there are deals to be had for the camera and Move controllers. On Amazon, the PS4 camera has a price of $41.50. The Move controller has a price of $28.99, but used controllers start at $17.35. All PlayStation VR units will include a digital download of "The Playroom VR."
