Preakness Stakes 2016: Date, Odds, Tickets For Second Leg Of Triple Crown

With Nyquist the latest Triple Crown contender, the 141st Preakness Stakes is right around the corner and will take place at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The 3-year-old Uncle Mo colt already trotted around Churchill Downs to claim the Kentucky Derby last week by 1 1/4 lengths, and now trainer Doug O’Neill and jockey Mario Gutierrez have the rare opportunity of gunning for the Triple Crown.

Nyquist has been tabbed the frontrunner and favorite once again, and he defeated half of the projected 14-deep Preakness field at the Derby. Nyquist is currently a 5/9 favorite, according to the latest odds from Sportsbook.ag, while Derby runner-up Exaggerator is once again on his tail at 4/1 odds and Gun Runner sits at 10/1.

Thus far, seven of the Preakness’ projected contenders already fell to Nyquist at the Derby, including Suddenbreakingnews, Brody’s Cause, and Lani. All are considered longshots at 20/1 odds or lower.

But a similar field and an eight-race winning streak aren’t enough to lock up the Preakness and a shot at Triple Crown history. Nyquist will have a shorter trip around Pimlico compared to Churchill Downs, 1 3/16 of a mile compared to 1 1/4, a difference of 110 yards that will make for a quicker race and allows faster contenders more of a shot.

Attending the Preakness, just like the Derby, can be expensive but there are plenty of options for any size group. A more expensive option is the Preakness Village, which sits inside Pimlico’s infield and offers a prime view of the finish line and winner’s circle, but their are also suites and tent packages to enjoy the race in the open air.

While passes are available directly through Pimlico, according to ticket site StubHub.com, tickets start at $40 for a spot in the grandstand and rise to more than $2,600 for a lower box on the secondary market.
