Thomas Beatie, who caused controversy in 2007 when he became pregnant, is in news again. The 38-year-old female-to-male transgender is separating from his wife of nine years, according to People Magazine.

During the taping of The Doctors on CBS, Beatie announced his separation from wife Nancy.

Like all marriages, we have our ups and downs, and we're going through a rough patch right now. At the moment, we're separated, Beatie said on the show. Beatie also announced that he had the final female-to-male gender reassignment surgery.

Beatie was born as a female named Tracy Lagondino in 1974 in Hawaii. He said he felt like a man and underwent sex-reassignment surgery when he was 28 to legally become a man.

I wanted to have a child one day. I didn't know how. It was just a dream, Daily Mail quoted Beatie as saying on the Oprah Winfrey show four years ago.

During his 20s he got convinced that he was a man inside a female's body. He then started taking male hormones. By this time he had already met Nancy, a body builder, who was 11 years older than him, according to Daily Mail.

In 2003, one year after he legally became man, Beatie got married to Nancy in Hawaii.

Beatie and Nancy together had three children, one girl and two boys.

On June 29, 2008, Beatie gave birth to first girl child named Susan Juliette and on June 9, 2009, he gave birth to a boy named Austin Alexander.

On July 25, 2010, Beatie gave birth to his third child, a boy named Jensen James Beatie.
