Pregnant Woman Found With Gunshot Wound Inside Car Dies; Baby Delivered

A pregnant woman in Minnesota died after she was found with a gunshot wound inside a car in the parking lot of an Amazon fulfillment center in Lakeville. The victim's baby was delivered at a nearby hospital, but the newborn's condition is unknown, reports said.

Cops are investigating the death of the unidentified 31-year-old victim who succumbed to injuries Sunday. The suspect identified as a male acquaintance of the victim, Donte Raphael McCray, 32, from Minneapolis was arrested on second-degree manslaughter charges and held in the Dakota County Jail, news outlet Law & Crime reported.

McCray was an employee at the Amazon facility where the fatal shooting occurred.

The Lakeville police, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Officer are looking into the incident, ABC News reported.

According to reports, McCray was at the crime scene when police arrived at around 6:50 p.m. Sunday. He is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

"The extent of his involvement and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still in the very early stages of investigation. No one else is believed to have direct involvement, and there is not believed to be any threat to the public's safety at this time," Lakeville Police said in a news release.

Meanwhile, McCray was reportedly held without bail pending investigation and is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

In a similar incident Sunday, a woman in Joliet, Illinois, was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds inside a car, along with a 2-year-old girl who was left unharmed. Deputies responding to a parking complaint found the dead woman, later identified as Maya A. Smith, in the front seat and the unidentified child in the back. The child was taken to a hospital and was later released into the care of family members, reports said. An investigation was launched to identify the suspect/suspects involved in the fatal shooting.
