KEY POINTS

  • Prince Harry has always wanted to live a normal life
  • He also tried to make the monarchy ordinary
  • David Attenborough thinks that making the monarchy ordinary would've eventually backfired

Prince Harry talked about his decision to quit the royal family during his prank calls with two Russian YouTubers.

During their conversation, the Duke of Sussex said that he is much more normal than his family believes. Prince Harry also said that he and his wife, Meghan Markle are excited to get rid of all the restrictions they had to endure as members of the royal family.

According to Express, Prince Harry’s desire to communicate just how ordinary the monarchy is and how normal he is would’ve backfired spectacularly years ago. Sir David Attenborough criticized the documentary “Royal Family” years ago. The show followed the everyday lives of the royals for 18 months.

“ You’re killing the monarchy, you know, with this film you’re making. The whole [royal] institution depends on mystique and the tribal chief in his hut. If any member of the tribe ever sees inside the hut, then the whole system of the tribal chiefdom is damaged and the tribe eventually disintegrates,” he said.

In the 2000 biography “The Queen and Di: The Untold Story,” royal author Ingrid Seward said that Attenborough’s previous statement should’ve been seen as a warning to the royal family and what they were letting themselves in for.

“It was a warning which was ignored, and, in retrospect, the program came to be seen to have given fateful encouragement to exactly the kind of intrusive interest in their lives which the Royal Family were at such pains to avoid,” she said.

Prince Harry also made headlines this week after Kate Middleton’s emotional confession with her brother-in-law was revealed. A source told Woman’s Day New Zealand that the Duchess of Cambridge pulled Prince Harry to the side to air her feelings when he and Markle returned to London for their royal engagements.

“Apparently, she fought back tears as she told them how their lack of communication and contact both before and after they moved to Canada had been devastating for them and how they felt completely shut out of their lives,” the source claimed.
