Prince William embarked on a sans-Kate Middleton skiing holiday in the Swiss Alps over the weekend and the British tabloids aren’t happy.

After photos emerged of the man second in line to the British throne drinking with friends and an Australian model while in the resort of Verbier, right-wing tabloids The Sun and the Daily Mail angrily pointed out that at the same time the Duchess of Cambridge was at home with their two children, George and Charlotte. Adding to their apparent agitation, William’s trip led him to miss a Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.

Both tabloids described the prince as “workshy.”

“WORK-SHY Prince William ducked out of a Commonwealth Day service to go on a lads-only ski holiday,” screamed The Sun.

Photos showed William enjoying drinks over lunch Sunday with a group of long-time friends as well as 24-year-old model Sophie Taylor, whom he is seen high-fiving in one shot. According to the Sun, the lunch included beer wine and Jagerbombs.

The drinking is then said to have continued over dinner before moving onto a nightclub. As well as photos, a video was published by TMZ Tuesday showing William dancing to some classic 90’s music. The dance is noticeably a solo one, however.

Responding to questions about his whereabouts, a Kensington Palace spokesman said: “His schedule was private and we would not comment on it.”

The spokesman added that there was never any plan for William and Kate to attend the Commonwealth Day service, which marked the 40th anniversary of the celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations.

“The duke and duchess have attended the event for the last two years and look forward to doing so often in the future,” he said.

William is set to one day follow his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, as the head of the Commonwealth of Nations once he becomes king.
