A shy little girl in Glasgow, Scotland, rejected a kiss from Prince William on Thursday.

The hilarious incident occurred outside the Donald Dewer Leisure Centre in Glasgow, where British royal and father-to-be Prince Williams was meeting fans with wife Kate Middleton. Dressed like a princess, 4-year-old Shona Ritchie gathered her courage and asked the future king for a kiss.

However, when Prince William tried to give her a kiss on the cheek, Ritchie got nervous and rejected him.

Karen Ritchie, Shona’s mother, told the Daily Mail that her young daughter just lost her nerve. "She's been dressed up like that since 6 a.m. today, and we've been here waiting since 9. But when she finally plucked up the courage to ask him, she got really shy and pulled away."

"Oh, no! You see!" William said after his kiss was rejected. "Aw. Next time, Shona. Next time."

Ritchie then snubbed William a second time by refusing to give him a flower that she was saving for Middleton.

"Is that for me?" he asked. "Is that for Kate?"

When Middleton approached, a star-struck Ritchie handed the flower to her.

"She said Shona looked very pretty and asked her if she had picked the flower from her garden," Ritchie told the Daily Mail, regarding the meeting with the Duchess of Cambridge. "But Shona told her she got it from my vase in the house, and she thought that was very funny."
