Princess Diana’s fans were reportedly angered over Prince Charles’ 70th birthday documentary on BBC.

Sam Stevenson, a journalist for Express, noted the fact that the late Princess of Wales was not mentioned even once in the special that aired before Prince Charles’ Nov 14 birthday.

Prince, Son, and Heir: Charles at 70” promised to provide a revealing and intimate portrait of the longest-serving heir to the throne. Prince Charles said that he feels he has more to do before he could become King.

The documentary featured Prince William and Prince Harry, who also didn’t directly talk about Princess Diana. The Duke of Sussex mentioned his “mommy” while talking about how Princess Diana and Prince Charles raised them in such a way that they could do whatever they wanted.

Stevenson noted that Princess Diana’s fans were left with raised eyebrows after watching the documentary with the hope of hearing stories about the princess. Prince Charles wed Princess Diana on July 29, 1981. After 11 years of marriage, the couple announced their separation.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s divorce was finalized in 1996, a year after the latter’s controversial Panorama interview. The mom of two passed away following a fatal car crash in Paris in 1997.

Charlotte Moore, the director of BBC Content, indirectly explained why Princess Diana was not mentioned in the documentary. She said that the special was meant to focus on Prince Charles’ life and work and no one else.

“It’s a real privilege to be access to the Prince of Wales and those closest to him to mark his 70th birthday. This intimate documentary will offer a unique insight into his life and work and those who know him best,” she said.

Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, is heavily featured in the documentary. The Duchess of Cornwall also talked about the Prince of Wales’ destiny to becoming King.
