Some people launch petitions to get an artist to come to their city. Sometimes they raise money and hope their attempts convince that artist. If you're Fabio Zaffagnini, you recruit 1,000 musicians to perform a cover of "Learn to Fly" by the Foo Fighters to get the famed rock band to come to Cesena, Italy.

The Rockin' 1000 project started in May 2014 and recruitment took place online. Zaffagnini had help from four talented people who created video tutorials covering the vocals, guitar, bass and drum sections of "Learn to Fly." Over seven months, the project raised 44,788 euros (about $48,866). Zaffagnini's idea was a bit crazy but totally brilliant. His musical adventure was covered by blogs and music sites like Rolling Stone.

Zaffagnini recruited Marco Sabiu to conduct the 1,000 musicians. Just look at that list: There are so many drummers, guitarists and singers. That's a daunting task and there was plenty of uncertainty on the day they were set to shoot the massive performance. Some musicians bailed while others were eager to volunteer. While everything could have gone totally wrong, the "Learn to Fly" cover is actually fantastic and not the chaotic mess you might expect. It's especially great watching all those drummers in sync.

Will it be enough to convince Grohl and company to head to Cesena, Italy? Grohl's broken leg hasn't stopped him from touring, and there are few free dates in November while the band is playing in Italy as part of a larger European tour.
