A biography on Queen Elizabeth II will give an intimate look at the British woman and monarch, including her courtship and marriage to Prince Philip.

Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern Monarch by biographer Sally Bedell Smith is being published by Random House and will be released on Jan. 10, 2012.

Drawing on numerous interviews and never-before-revealed documents, acclaimed biographer Sally Bedell Smith pulls back the curtain to show in intimate detail the public and private lives of Queen Elizabeth II, who has led her country and Commonwealth through the wars and upheavals of the last sixty years with unparalleled composure, intelligence, and grace, a synopsis on the Random House Web site reads.

This is not Bedell Smith's first venture into writing about the British Royal Family. She published Diana in Search of Herself: Portrait of a Troubled Princess in 1999. Her other works include Reflected Glory: The Life of Pamela Churchill Harriman and For Love of Politics Bill and Hillary Clinton: The White House Years.
