Rascal Flatts admitted that the band's lead vocalist, Gary LeVox, had been lip-syncing the song “Rewind” during their performance at the 49th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, or ACM Awards, which was held in Las Vegas Sunday night.

The country-music trio publicly announced Monday that LeVox was not singing the song because he had lost his voice after performing at many shows a week before the ACM, according to TMZ, and the band members said that they chose to lip-sync the song instead of cancelling the show at the last minute.

“We've never done it before, and we're obviously not very good at it,” the group wrote, tweeting a picture of the statement, Tuesday.

Ironically, ACM Awards co-hosts Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton joked about miming in their opening segment, saying: “If you don't like live music, then you need to go down the block and see Britney Spears.”

Spears was caught lip-syncing during a show in Las Vegas in February when she was so preoccupied with waving to her thousands of fans that she forgot to sing as her pre-taped vocals played on in the background, the Daily Mail reported at the time.

Rascal Flatts is currently gearing up for their upcoming “Rewind” tour after the release of the album on May 13. The tour, which starts in St. Louis, will reportedly be brought to other North American cities before ending in Detroit sometime in September.
