Water for Elephants star Reese Witherspoon was hospitalized after being struck by a car while jogging Wednesday morning, the Santa Monica Police Department confirmed.

Santa Monica Police Sgt. Richard Lewis told The Associated Press that the Oscar-winning actress was hit by a car driven by an 84-year-old woman. Witherspoon, 35, was jogging in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of 20th Street and Georgina Avenue when the driver struck her at about 20 mph.

She suffered minor injuries, according to a police report, and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A representative for the actress said she wasn't seriously injured, and is resting comfortably at home.

Police said the driver was interviewed and released after being cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
