The New England Patriots have confirmed a shocking trade after sending its defensive lineman Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders today.

The trade was made in exchange for a 2011 first-round draft choice.

Seymour, a five-time Pro-Bowler and a three-time first-team All-Pro is coming off a 2008 campaign in which he tied a career high with eight sacks.

In 101 career games with the Pats, Seymour had 357 tackles, 39 sacks and two interceptions.
