McKeon, 58, died on Monday and is survived by his wife and children.
He was a founding partner of Wasserstein Perella & Co. and in 1992 started Veritas, which grew into a $2.2 billion firm. In June of this year Veritas closed its biggest acquisition, the $1.25 billion purchase of Thomson Reuters Corp.'s health-care data and analytics business, according to data compiled by Bloomberg News.
McKeon was a member of the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington and the Council on Foreign Relations. He was appointed in 1993 to chairman of the Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority.
He was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and graduated magna cum laude from Fordham University, with a bacherlor's degree in economics. He received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
