Victoria's Good Friday Royal Children's Hospital appeal passed $9 million as the prime minister encourages everyone to give.

The appeal smashed last year's record-breaking total as it now reached $9,168,449 worth of donations as of 9pm (AEDT) on Friday.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who has been touring the country to endorse his health and hospital reform plan, encouraged everyone to keep on giving on a broadcasted statement during the appeal.

I know times are tough due to financial crisis, but the hospital needs our ongoing support, He said.

The appeal raised more the $13.8 million last year, despite the competition with the Victorian bushfires appeal, to raise funds for research and medical equipments needed by the hospital.

This is about investing for our future by investing in our kids' wellbeing and health. Rudd said.

So let's all dig deep so that we can make a difference.

Donations are still accepted until midnight.
