Fans of Ciara and Russell Wilson rejoiced when they discovered the Seattle Seahawks quarterback got down on one knee and proposed to the singer, but not everyone was happy. Wilson’s ex-wife, Ashton Meem, apparently threw some shade Ciara’s way when she found out about the engagement.
Meem, who still goes by her married name, changed her Twitter profile picture so a diamond engagement ring could be seen in the photo. While Wilson, 27, gave Ciara a 5-carat diamond stunner, he adorned Meem’s ring finger with an 8-carat rock, according to the blog Media Take Out.
Even though Meem’s ring is bigger, Ciara’s has better quality. “This is one incredible ring,” high-end jeweler David Harris told Hollywood Life in an exclusive report Friday. “This brilliant cut solitaire is approximately 12 to 15 carats and looks to be a D through F colorless diamond, which means it’s a really good diamond. I would estimate the center stone be worth between $2 and $2.5 million based on one which I recently sold to a very wealthy client.”
Wilson proposed to Ciara, 30, after nearly a year of dating. He surprised her with a vacation, playing “travel roulette” with a possible 30 destinations. “She was shocked when they landed in the Seychelles at the exclusive resort North Island,” the “I Bet” singer’s rep told People magazine Friday.
The couple announced their engagement on Instagram Friday, sharing gorgeous pictures of the proposal. “I feel complete,” Ciara captioned one photo. “God is good! Grateful for you, @DangRussWilson. You are heaven sent. I'm looking forward to spending forever with you,” she wrote in another.
Meem has not issued an official statement since her ex-husband proposed to Ciara. The two divorced in 2014 after two years of marriage. Rumors claim she had an affair with then-Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate. He signed with the Detroit Lions in 2014. Tate denied the story.
