South African blue-chip stocks booked their highest close in 2-1/2 years on Wednesday, helped by bullish sentiment about the outlook for resource-related companies.

Johannesburg's Top-40 index finished up 1.2 percent at 29,0938.72, its highest finish since June 2008. The broader All-share index gained 1 percent to 32,483.94.
