Braids made a big appearance at Sunday night's SAG Awards 2012 with stars like Dianna Agron, Kaley Cuoco and Busy Phillips sporting twisted locks. Some were simple, others were complex, but all were causally beautiful.

Dianna Agron had the most complex braid. The Glee star's braided crown was not only a side-swept band, but it was also a fishtail. Fishtail braids are one of the most complex braids to fasten. Agron's was expertly done, of course, but looked shabby-chic as the rest of her wavy hair was pulled into a loose bun. The 25-year-old beauty paired her hairstyle with a plunging, magenta Carolina Herrera gown and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Kaley Cuoco also opted for a braid on the 2012 SAG Awards red carpet, but hers was a classic milkmaid version. Cuoco wrapped a perfect plait around the crown of her head and kept her face-framing bangs in front for a less severe look. Cuoco paired her braid with a mint-green Romona Keveza dress.

Others who sported the look at the 2012 SAG Awards include Busy Phillips - who opted for a front twist, tucked behind her ear -- and Modern Family actress Ariel Winter -- who had a tight braid secured with her bangs. Braided styles have been popular amongst boho fashionistas. Nicole Richie has sported the look on numerous occasions. Lauren Conrad added plaits to her California style.

Braids work best on unwashed hair, so make sure you leave a day or two to do the style. Smooth strands are easiest to manage. If you have naturally curly or frizzy hair, make sure to use serum to get your locks a bit straighter. Bumble and bumble's Straight Blow Dry cream (Sephora, $28) will tame fly-aways and frizz. Karina's bobby pins (Ulta, $2.62) will look pretty peeking out from under your plait.

Here is how to do the 2012 SAG Awards braided styles.

*Since Agron's style is not just a simple fishtail braid, but rather a crown-wrap, make the braid a little looser at the base so it is easy to wrap.
