Disney's romantic comedy The Proposal topped the North American box office on its opening weekend and sold $34.1 million in tickets at North American theaters.

Sandra Bullock stars in the movie as a hard-nosed executive who convinces her assistant into a fake marriage to avoid deportation, took $34.1.

The Proposal has led Bullock to achieve her first No. 1 movie in 10 years and has given a much needed boost to Walt Disney Pictures.
