All eyes have been on Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) on Season 5 of “Scandal.” However, something big seems to be brewing on the side. The Louvre in Paris was burning to the ground in episode 3 Thursday night … and someone named “Lazarus” was behind it. Who or what is Lazarus? All viewers know right now is that Papa Pope (Joe Morton) is somehow connected.

“Scandal” fans will remember that episode 3 ended with Jake (Scott Foley) paying Papa Pope a visit behind bars. When Jake tells his former enemy about the Louvre, Papa Pope responds that “Lazarus won.”

“Looks like it,” Jakes says.

If Jake went to Papa Pope about Lazarus that must mean that a big threat is looming … and the former B613 wants answers. Episode 4, titled “Dog-Whistle Politics,” will find Jake doing some research into Lazarus and the fire at the Louvre. The synopsis teases that Jake “unexpectedly crosses paths with someone he thought he’d never see again.” Could that possibly be activist Marcus (Cornelius Smith Jr.)? According to TVLine he is supposed to reappear later this fall as a series regular.

While the mystery of Lazarus unfolds in episode 4, Huck (Guillermo Diaz) and Quinn (Katie Lowes) will be trying to help Olivia do damage control after getting thrown under the bus by the White House. The two will “recruit a familiar face” to help them “fix” the situation. Fingers crossed its Leo (Paul Adelstein).

Finally, Fitz will face some problems when he discovers that “not everyone fully supports his actions.” It sounds like Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Cyrus (Jeff Perry) might be winning this round.

“Scandal” Season 5, episode 4 airs on ABC on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 9 p.m. ET. Check out the promo video and photos for “Dog-Whistle Politics” below:
