A number of news sources, such as the Associated Press, Politico and TMZ are reporting that Scott Pelley is a likely candidate to replace Katie Couric as the CBS Evening News anchor.

It was reported Monday that Couric will be vacating her CBS Evening News anchor post when her contract expires on June 4.

Pelley has spent 22 years at CBS. He has been a 60 Minutes correspondent since 2002.

According to a report by TMZ, Pelley is a front-runner for the position because he is extremely well-liked and respected by his bosses.

New York's Daily News is reporting that also in the running are Russ Mitchell, anchor of the CBS Weekend News and co-anchor of the Saturday morning Early Show, John Roberts, national correspondent for Fox News and Bob Schieffer, long-time anchor of the Saturday CBS Evening News, moderator of Face the Nation and a national political correspondent in various positions since 1969.
