The New York Police Department arrested the second suspect caught in connection with an early morning robbery in Brooklyn and the shooting death of a veteran police officer.

As reported earlier by the International Business Times New York, Officer Peter Figoski, was part of the back-up team that responded to a break-in in the Cypress Hills section of Brooklyn. While investigating the scene, he was shot in the face by Lamont Pride, 27.

Officer Glen Estrada had caught Pride's partner, but once he saw the shooter flee, he was forced to let him go and chased after Pride. Police put out a reward for the criminal that got away. However, he was captured later this afternoon at the Marlboro Houses in Brooklyn's Gravesend, reported the New York Post. Details about the arrest were not readily made available.

I want to commend Officer Estrada, who had the presence of mind to focus on the man with the gun, and the courage to chase him down and capture him, said Commissioner Ray Kelly in a statement, according to the New York Post.

Officer Figoski was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
