Jacoby Ellsbury and the Red Sox are on the verge of a historic September collapse.The Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves are on the brink of baseball history - the wrong side of it.

On Sept. 1, the Red Sox were in first place in the American League East. They led Tampa Bay by nine games. In the other circuit, the Braves led the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Wild Card race by 8.5 games.
