“Shadowhunters” season 2 will feature a new addition to the show's cast.
“Ill Manors” actor Nick Sagar has been cast for a recurring role, according to Deadline. The actor will play the role of Victor Aldertree, a Clave Representative who will investigate Jace's (Dominic Sherwood) departure with the story's biggest villain Valentine (Alan Van Sprang).
The news of the actor's casting comes a couple of weeks after the series' original showrunner Ed Decter left. The executive producer has since been replaced by former “Smallville” showrunners Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer.
Sagar's addition to the cast might still be a product of Decter's doing, though. While the producer left the show abruptly, the series is reportedly filming on schedule. Prior to leaving, Decter said viewers should keep an eye out for new characters as well as the development of the ones they've already met.
Speaking to TVLine about the direction he was looking at for “Shadowhunters” season 2, Decter said: “Some characters we've met go through giant transformation. Simon's (Alberto Rosende) girlfriend Maureen (Shailene Garnett) has a lot in store for her, and there's a lot in store for Jocelyn (Maxim Roy) and Luke (Isaiah Mustafa). There will be new characters we meet as well, including the Seelie Queen. We'll start building into each of the realms in a different way.”
The shocking development in the finale of the first season may have contributed to the introduction of new characters on the show. In the first season, Jace, who had been a strict shadowhunter, decided to leave with Valentine after learning that he is his father.
Much of the second season will also focus on how Clary will help Jace figure out his issues, Katherine McNamara said during a Q&A session. The actress added that it will be interesting to watch how their roles would be reversed in a way, since her character was the one who was lost, in terms of self-identity, when the series started.
“Shadowhunters” season 2 has not been given a premiere date, but it is expected to air next year.
