Shadowhunters
Here's what fans can expect from “Shadowhunters” Season 2. Freeform

“Shadowhunters” Season 2 will be an exciting installment for Malec fans. Viewers were already treated to the beginning of the special relationship between Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and Alec (Matthew Daddario) in Season 1, but more interesting stories from the two await us in the current season.

In an interview with Paste magazine, executive producer Michael Reisz shared what fans can expect from their favorite pair. “In the upcoming season, we’re really going to examine with [Malec] what the true evolution of a relationship is, from the dating stage to further,” Reisz said. “You talked about universal themes earlier and a universal theme is what everybody goes through when they meet the person that takes their breath away. How do they explore that, especially as they are figuring themselves out?”

Reisz also said that fans might be surprised by how some things that happened later in the book will happen in the current season. The show has taken the liberty of not strictly following the book and injecting characters and storylines that they see as good catalysts to move the big story forward.

Showrunner Todd Slavkin also teased exciting things to look forward to in the relationship between Magnus and Alec. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Slavkin said fans will see how the differences in the two characters’ personalities and experiences will affect their relationship.

“They’re from such two different worlds -- one’s a warlock, one’s a shadowhunter,” the producer said. “One is super experienced and has lived for centuries and has bedded many, many, many men and women, and here’s Alec, who is a young lad who’s just leaping into the world of relationships.”

Aside from Magnus and Alec’s relationship, the new season of the show based on Cassandra Clare’s “The Mortal Instruments” will also feature the evolution of the relationships between Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood), Alec and Jace, Simon (Alberto Rosende) and Isabelle (Emeraude Toubia) and Simon and Clary.

“Shadowhunters” Season 2 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Freeform.
