Shonda Rhimes recently opened up about Olivia Pope’s (Kerry Washington) endgame in “Scandal” Season 7.

Without giving anything away, the executive producer simply told Entertainment Tonight that Olivia’s journey would reach the place she’s always imagined her to go. “What’s wonderful about this season is that Kerry is throwing herself into it, we’re throwing ourselves into it, the writers are going crazy and the cast is really in it. It’s our last season. We’re telling all the story we want to tell. Where she’ll end up…” she said.

Rhimes also said that there have been a lot of tears on the set of the hit ABC series. “There is a sense that everything is the last time, so you hold onto it, but I also think I’m in denial about a lot of it, so I just try to pretend it’s going to keep going,” she said.

Meanwhile, “Scandal” cast member Bellamy Young also shared her thoughts about Mellie Grant’s endgame. While speaking with US Weekly, the actress said that if it were only up to her, “Scandal” would air for another seven seasons so that Mellie could complete her presidential stint.

“She would have eight years in the office and then she would have a lavish wedding in the rose garden,” she said.

Unfortunately, Mellie won’t find love in “Scandal” Season 7 because Young knows that a “happy ending” for the characters don’t always make for good TV.

Young also talked about her co-star, Washington, and said that it’s been a pleasure getting to know her on and off screen. “She’s almost ineffably good, sort of in every way. Knowing her has been one of the greatest gifts of the show and the show has been nothing but great, great gifts. All of these people I will get to love for a lifetime,” she said.

Rhimes is also grateful to all of the actors she got to work with on the show. “I feel so lucky that I’ve gotten to work with so many amazing people and that we form such great bonds that have lasted so long,” she said.

Scandal” Season 7 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
