Rapper Shyne was released from jail Tuesday after serving eight years, a Clinton Correctional Facility staffer confirmed to CBS.

The New York rapper Jamal Barrow, best known as Shyne was charged in March 2001 in relation to a 1999 New York nightclub shooting involving Sean P.Diddy Combs and Jennifer Lopez.

During his time in jail he released two albums and converted to Judaism. He also changed his name officially to Moses Michael Leviv, CBS reported.
