Sirius XM Radio Inc reported a net loss for the fourth quarter, as its operating expenses rose and it incurred the costs of paying off debt early.

The satellite radio company's reported a net loss on Tuesday of $81.4 million or 2 cents per share, versus a profit of $11.8 million or nil per share a year earlier.

Revenue for the quarter was $735.9 million, up from $676.2 million a year before.

It ended the quarter with 20.2 million subscribers, up from 18.8 million a year earlier.

Shares closed at $1.83 on the Nasdaq on Monday.
