“So You Think You Can Dance” will return this summer, but it won’t be the same. Fox renewed the reality series for Season 13. However, there will be some major changes.

Contestants will no longer be adults on “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation,” a press release revealed. All dancers will be between the ages of 8 and 13 years old, but they’ll get some expert advice. Of course, returning judges Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo and Nigel Lythgoe, along with host Cat Deeley, will be there to critique the dancers. The tween talent will also get extra help from past “SYTYCD” contestants.

The format is slightly changed as well. During the early weeks of the reality show, dancers will compete to stay in “The Academy.” Once the show gets down to the top 10, they’ll move to the “SYTYCD” studio and get paired with an all-star alumnus who will work and perform with them throughout the competition.

Lythgoe, who is also a producer and creator of the show, founded the Dizzy Feet Foundation, a nonprofit that helps give scholarships to young dancers. It seems his experience with the foundation proved that junior dancers have what it takes to compete in the reality show.

“Through the Dizzy Feet Foundation, I’ve had the great privilege of working with incredible young talent who will eventually shape the future of dance in this country,” Lythgoe said in a press release. “By evolving the ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ format this season, we can showcase the very best junior dancers out there and open up the world of dance to a whole new generation.”

This isn’t the first time the dance competition has gotten a makeover. Last year, contestants were divided into Stage and Street teams. Clearly, that gimmick didn’t win over new viewers, but will a junior twist pull in more fans? It might do the opposite. TVLine said that cancellation would’ve been better than bringing in kids, and many Twitter users seemed just as upset.
