Following heated overnight negotiations, Sony Pictures announced a rare studio purchase at Sundance early Monday for the movie Black Dynamite for an estimated $2 million.

North American distribution rights and substantial commitment to market the movie was included in the deal. Black Dynamite stars Michael Jai White as a Dolemite-like ghetto avenger meting out street justice after the man kills his brother.

The film is set to reach theaters later in the second half of the year.

This is the second deal of the festival for Sony , which on Saturday bought the cop thriller Brooklyn's Finest.
