Stocks bounced on Wednesday in a broad-based rally led by energy shares and aided by data showing stronger-than-expected pending home sales.

The Dow Jones industrial average <.DJI> gained 185.09 points, or 1.85 percent, to 10,209.11. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index <.SPX> rose 23.04 points, or 2.15 percent, to 1,093.75. The Nasdaq Composite Index <.IXIC> climbed 48.50 points, or 2.18 percent, to 2,270.83.
