Space Heater Recall 2014: Full List Of Duraflame Electric Heaters Recalled For Potential Fire Hazard

Get too close to a Duraflame space heater and you might just get burned.

In response to specific Duraflame models being deemed potential burn and fire hazards, approximately 31,000 Duraflame Electric (Fireplace/Foyers) Space Heaters are being recalled this week. According a press release from the manufacturer, Twin-Star International Home Furnishings, thousands of items are being voluntarily recalled following multiple incident reports and one damage report.

According to the Delray Beach, Fla.-based company, the recalled items (model number DFS-220, sold in colors black, red and white), are a potential fire and burn hazard. “Customers should immediately turn off and unplug the heater,” reads Twin-Star's press release, confirming that a total of 32 incidents involving melted or burned air outlets have been reported with the recalled products. While one consumer has claimed the products caused $94 in damage to their home's flooring, Twin-Star insists that no injuries have occurred.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has also since released a press release regarding the recall, stating, “The heater can overheat and cause the units to melt, catch fire and ignite nearby items, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.”

How do affected consumers get a refund? It’s simple. Customers looking for a full refund are being advised to return recalled units to the original place of purchase. According to reports, the items were sold at retailers such as Farmer’s Furniture, Meijer, QVC and Ross, among others, between August 2013 and January 2014 for about $60 each.

Consumers are able to contact Twin-Star for a recall kit by calling (855) 884-9651 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET. According to the furniture company's press release, customers using the recall kit method will be required to mail their defective products cord back to Twin-Star via a prepaid return label and should expect up to a six-week wait before receiving the full refund.
