In June, TV Line reported about the change in schedule for “Still Star-Crossed” from Mondays to Saturdays. Even though ABC has not yet confirmed the series’ cancellation, the publication noted that this sudden shift in schedule suggests that “Still Star-Crossed” is as good as canceled only after seven episodes.

According to Deadline, the first three episodes of the series, which aired on Monday nights, received better ratings compared to its final four installments. During its premiere, “Still Star-Crossed” debuted with a total of 2.3 million viewers and a 0.5 demo rating. Two weeks later, these figures dropped to only 1.6 million viewers and a 0.3 demo rating.

Meanwhile, the contracts of the actors who appeared in “Still Star-Crossed” Season 1 expired earlier this month. As of late, there are still no talks regarding a possible contract negotiation or renewal. Originally, the series was supposed to be released by ABC in 2016, but the year-long wait did not do the series any favors.

“Still Star-Crossed” is a sequel to Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” story. In the series, Lashana Lynch played the role of Rosaline Capulet, while Wade Briggs gave life to the character of Benvolio Montague. The two characters were forced to marry each other in an attempt to diffuse their family’s raging feud.

In other news, “Still Star-Crossed” isn’t the only series of Rhimes that was canceled by ABC. A few months ago, the network also decided to no longer push through with “The Catch” Season 3. The series centered on Alice (Mirelle Enos) and Ben (Peter Krause) as they struggled with their personal and professional lives as private investigators. Additionally, “Scandal” will bow out of its Thursday time slot after Season 7 wraps.
